Elizabeth Gunn: Cool in Tucson, 6:30 pm
Gunn’s new series start brings us Sarah Burke, smart and ambitious, who worries that Sergeant Delaney, her superior on the homicide squad, seems to hold a grudge against her. Still smarting from a painful divorce, she shakes the personal stuff off to focus on a body found in a parking-lot. The case takes a bizarre turn when Sarah’s young niece, Denny, neglected by her hard-drinking mother and struggling to stay in school, disappears. Gunn writes sharp, funny dialogue and has mastered the workings of the cop shop whether in Minnesota or Arizona.
CJ Box: Blue Heaven, 7 pm
Box shifts his crackling suspense to northern Idaho where an affluent ranching community masks a law enforcement brotherhood, mostly retired LAPD, bound by corruption and greed, and the traditional buddyhood thing. When a 12-year-old girl and her younger brother witness a brutal murder and go on the run in the woods, their mother has no one to turn to but the police. Oops….
